You know you went to Monrovia High School if….

You’ve ever thought about why we spend so much money on murals when we don’t have enough books
You know every police officer by name
You know the prime places people hide drugs (like the ivy behind the library)
You know to never use the metal stairs when it is raining or, if you are a female, when wearing heeled shoes
You never touch handrails
You’ve learned the strategies behind buying food at the hutch without waiting in line
You know the best food the cafeteria serves is bagels
The best thing to do when you have a sub is order food…and it’s always Food Time!
You’ve ever had a class that had: a permanent long-term sub; at least six different teachers; a different sub every day.
You’ve ever been in a class that the teacher either got fired at the beginning of the year or quit.
You know the best counselor is Lyn Carter
You know the doorways that are watched and not watched when you want to get off campus
P.E. consists of cheating on the Monrovia Mile and walking around the basketball courts
Mr. King
Football gets all the money and everyone else gets shit
The majority of the people that take ceramics take it so they can make bongs
You know people that smoke out in the back of the classroom during class and the teacher doesn’t care
The boy’s bathroom gets hotboxed at least twice a month
Earth Day and Togetherness Day are wonderful only because you get an hour lunch
4/20 is the most celebrated holiday
Lockdowns on the first day of school
You’ve seen an accident where a car crashed into the house across the street from the parking lot (yeah ’02!!)
You don’t really have to buy a parking permit for the parking lot even though they say you do
Almost every student has a stack of hall passes and knows the counselors’ signatures
Mr. Truong is the coolest! (Does he have a personal life?!)
Fresh doughnut marks in the parking lot
Monrovia Canyon or Grand Park are the best places to get high/drunk
Tom’s No. 19 = smokers, junior year lunch with no car, the best French fries, have to pay to use the bathroom, only exist cause of the high school
ASB members are the only ones that participate in spirit days…and only because they are required to!
You know everyone who works at the Krikorian
The Wildcat was primarily the personal religious advertisement for Christian Locatell
We are the ghetto school in the Rio Hondo League
We are ghetto
25% of the graduating class goes to college in a good year, and 80% of those go to PCC or Citrus
You know to avoid driving on Colorado around 3:00 pm on a school day because you will get stuck
At any one time, at least 7 girls on campus are pregnant
You know to avoid the oak tree by the rose garden
Never trip in the hallways
The gangs M.N.V. and Oak Tree frequently add their artwork to the school and you know members of each personally, though you may not realize it
Assemblies are a time to pick on freshmen or get off campus
The planted flowers never live
School personnel love their walkie-talkies dearly and love wandering around looking important at snack and lunch
A dress code exists, really it does
You are not allowed to wear ANYTHING with a school logo or distinguishing school or city characteristics to Grad Nite because of potential gang violence
You know at least 2 people that took E on Grad Nite
There was a dance code at formal dances because people like to come thisclose to having sex on the dance floor
There was a dress code at Prom and you had to get your dress approved (if it was doubtful) by the principle by having him sign a photograph of your dress that you then had to take with you to the dance to get in
If your history teacher invented the tank and saved Monrovia from the KKK
One name: Mr. Meaner!
Look CAREFULLY before turning any doorknobs!
There were exposed wires in the broken ceilings of your classrooms
Pigeons lived in the ceilings
You know to stay far, far away from the biology classrooms because of the horrible, horrible stench
You German teacher is older than God
Mr. Jansson = Grammar Nazi!
Your Spanish teacher never stayed more than a year
Timid teachers never lasted long because they got threatened with stools by students (Mr. Pang!)
Security flirts with girls instead of keeping the campus secure
Drug dogs come into the Chemistry AP class
There is a bomb shelter under the Pep Stage
The Goo Goo Dolls played in the school gym
Your freshman biology teacher boiled deer heads in the back of the classroom
You know a white man who tries to be black around black men and a honkey around whitemen
The guys that hang out in the band room are well-known...and are always there....
You can get any club passed as long as you have it as a celebration of culture: Hence the Pirate Club (ARR!), and it numbered 54 members
Not Another Teen Movie was filmed at your school
You ever piked up trash as punishment when you were late getting back from lunch
You are highly trained in B.S.!
You ever had something stolen from you in the girls locker room (if you are a girl)
Some of the students knew more about the subject being taught than the teacher
A new librarian tried to beat up a student
Mr. Bell and Mrs. Bordona are "good friends"
You know that Mr. Delay should have been fired LONG ago
You participated in KROQ contests and watched the principal get covered in noodles and heard him sing a Blink 182 song over the intercom
They don't know how to plant grass on the football field and had to redo it twice in a year
Kids threw soda cans at the police and were promptly arrested
You knew the horrors of the witch Mrs. Wormbrant
There is an obervatory in above the science building that no one knows about
You walked inside the science building and not around it because of the stinky "cum" trees
State tests meant free time and filling in circles in nifty desgins
You had to watch where you walked because otherwise you would step in the huge loogies littering the ground
The English Department "meetings" happened at the local bar
Mr. Marks' "dirty joke of the day"
Prom was held at a Western museum of all places
The most common pranks were pouring oil in the pool, throwing a mattress in the pool, dying the pool, you get the idea...
Your friends rigged the Prom Queen vote, and when the teacher found out he didn't care in the slightest
The Senior Best vote was protested
Government class was time to talk, make fun of the teacher, and be random
Teachers smoked pot and warned students about acid
Administration cut down trees because they were the wrong color green
The Career Center has 25 computers and only 6 of them work
They installed lockers, but no one was allowed to use them
Teachers have married students
It was exciting to see what shoes Mr. Higgins would be wearing on any given day
At break, instead of sitting on the benches you piled your bags on them and stood
Security guards rode around in golf carts...and yes, complete with sirens on top
Sex in the bathroom
It was important to stake out a place to hang out early your freshman year...wars have been fought!
The yearbook was awesome :)
Females NEVER went to the bathroom alone...you might die in there!
